What does a normal day look like for you?
They are all different! And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ll walk you through what an ideal day looks like for me… I wake up and go for a run along the river whilst listening to a podcast, then coffeeeeee. Once I’ve got my caffeine hit I sit down in my home office to reply to some emails, and jump into the members’ facebook to see what everyone’s been up to and reply to any comments. I might have some event planning on for an upcoming member event or head to the studio to record an interview for my Boss Mode Radio show. Then maybe meet a biz babe or two for a coffee date. Can you tell I love coffee?! Then if my hubby is home from work (#fifowife) we will cook dinner together and relax.
Which artist do you relate to and why?
I am going to say Beyoncé (not because I look like her, and definitely NOT because I can sing haha) …more for the fact that I have a similar alter ego to her Sasha Fierce.
At the events that I run for female biz owners in Perth, my alter ego comes out. I step into a more confident, more powerful, more extroverted version of myself to make sure my guests feel welcome and have an epic time!
What have been some high notes (highlights) in your journey?
Building my business Fusion Biz Babes to a point where I could finally ditch my day job on 6th October 2017! I worked a full time job and hustled my biz on the side for almost 3 years before I was able to utter the words “I quit” and it was one of the best days of my life, and it’s only gotten better since then. Loving the freedom!
Also, hosting Lisa Messenger (one of Australia’s leading businesswomen and creator of the Collective Hub magazine) when she was in Perth in February 2018 was amazing, and had a massive impact on my business with more than 100 new members joining since then!
And being offered my own radio show on Perth business station, Boss Mode Radio, where I get to interview inspiring women in biz every week!
What have been some low notes (challenges) in your journey?
Two months after I launched The Fusion Membership, another membership for women in business with the exact same structure and format popped up in Perth. I struggled for a while with thoughts of “is there enough room for both in the market” and “why would people join my membership”.
Then when I had finished with my pity party, I turned to my strong biz network for support & guidance. They offered advice such as your vibe attracts your tribe, and different people will be attracted to different businesses and that is totally fine. I have since found this advice to be very true. And whatever vibe I am putting out I feel very lucky as I have now attracted 132 of the most kind, friendly, supportive and driven women into The Fusion Membership.
Mind-set as a business owner is constant battle on the daily! I keep mine in check by continuously investing in personal development such as coaches, kinesiology, podcasts, courses, events, seminars, books.
How does music keep you motivated?
I always have music playing in the background when working! Silence kills me. Another benefit of working from home is I can have a dance party in my kitchen when a good song comes on, and only my dog is there to judge me #winning
When things get tough, which songs do you turn to for inspiration/motivation?
Beyoncé… of course! Anything high energy. I also have a slight obsession with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I recently submitted this playlist for Boss Mode Radio Lunch Hour to give you an idea of the songs that get me amped up:
- Beyoncé – Hold Up
- Disclosure feat. Sam Smith – Latch
- Amy Winehouse – Valerie
- Beyoncé – Run the world
- Kiara – Gold
- Mo – Kamikaze
- Rudimental – Feel the Love
- Starley – Call On Me (Ryan Riback Remix)
- Felix Jaehn – Aint Nobody
- Carmada – Maybe
- Sticky Fingers – Caress Your Soul
- Major Laser – Get Free
- Kiesza – Hideaway
- Flume – Holdin On
- N.E.R.D & Rihanna – Lemo
What tips can you share for creating meaningful networks?
- Always start with “how can I help.” If you approach any event, meeting or conversation with that at the forefront of your mind, then you can’t go wrong! Help people and it will come back to you tenfold.
- Be YOU. Be genuine. Don’t try to be someone you’re not, people will see right through it.
- Make a conscious effort to get out and meet people. Become a YES man or woman! Yes it may be a little bit uncomfortable (especially for us introverts), but good things never come from comfort zones, and honestly it gets easier each time. It can even be as simple as scheduling a 1 on 1 coffee with someone who inspires you every week.
What advice can you give for those interested in starting their own business?
Get connected and find your people! Small business is amazing, and the freedom it allows is worth every hard moment but there WILL be challenges. There will be days where you lose your mojo. There will be difficult & unreasonable customers. That’s when you will need to turn to people who “get it” for support. People that will lend an understanding ear, give advice and never let you give up.
I can 100%, without a doubt, attribute my business success so far to my support network of driven women I have surrounded myself with. That is the power of surrounding yourself with the right people. Jim Rohn was on to something when he said “you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”
What’s currently playing on your Spotify?
A playlist called “Women of R&B.” Beyoncé is on it… of course 😉
